Location and access of the school
Ikawa High School is located in Karani Sub-location, Gitereni location, Meru South subcounty of Tharaka Nithi County. The School can be accessed through Chuka-Embu road ,then off the road at Kirubia junction ,joining Chera earth road and pass through Kiereni market 2km from tarmac ,Kambandi market 6km from tarmac ,Chera market 8km from tarmac .From Chera market branch at the sign board labeled Ikawa High School and travel about 1km to school .
Ikawa High School was established as a result of government policy to provide affordable day secondary education to students from poor and vulnerable backgrounds .The government of Kenya supported establishment of day High School near existing primary school.
The Presbyterian Church of Fast Africa (PCFA) and the government came together and provided land space for establishment of the school .Through the cooperation between the community,the sponsor ,Ikawa primary school and the government ,Ikawa High School was registered and established in the year 1988.It however closed in 1992 to 1995 due to lack of students .In 1996 the school re opened with 40 students .This number rose to 120 and at present the student population stands at 780 .(as at January 2014.) Currently the school has 27 teachers (14 employed by TSC while the rest are employed by the parents through the board of management)
